#WW: Fly away, be free

Butterfly; butterfly fly away,
teach me how to be as free as free can be.

Butterfly; butterfly I see you there,
its beautiful the way your wings caress the air.

Butterfly; butterfly go as high as you can go,
show me the things that I don't yet know.

Celebration anticipation

* * *
Our stockings are hung by the fireplace today.

Baby decorated the tree in her own special way.

"Twas the Night Before Christmas" is ready to read,

Final touches on our lights are all that we need.

* * *

We did trick-or-treat,

We had our turkey to eat.

Now December is here,

Which means Christmas is near!

Friday Funny: What If?

This sounds exactly like my daughter at bedtime! Sharing a Friday funny from my favorite writer, the great Shel Silverstein:

Whatif
By Shel Silverstein
from the book "A Light in the Attic" (1981)

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

Saturday kid who lived for the movies

Every now and then, I come across a poem or piece of writing that makes me smile. And of course, I want to share it with you - happy weekend!

The Saturday Kid
 by Alan Gilbert

I was the Saturday kid
Who lived for the movies,
That magic arena
Where fantasies play.
I rode on the prairie
And dived in the ocean,
Then stayed in a rapture
The rest of the day.

Sharp of mind

I am sharp of mind, yet tender of heart.
I wonder if I am the "me" I am supposed to be?
I hear questions,
I see confidence,
I want to exceed life's boundaries.
I am sharp of mind, yet tender of heart.

I pretend I can soar,
I feel fire from the sun,
I touch clouds, yet my feet remain planted.
I worry that I'm trapped in "the box",
I cry for the spark of surprise.
I am sharp of mind, yet tender of heart.

I understand when I fall a step short,
I say, I am my own life designer.
I dream I am more,
I try to share joy,
I hope to touch the world.
I am sharp of mind, yet tender of heart.

I am my own.
And I share that with you.
