To celebrate your Disney Side: a musical #giveaway

Have you ever caught yourself listening to your kids' music while in the car all by yourself? I have, pretty much daily. My car has a 6-CD changer and five of those CDs are kid-friendly tunes at all times.

I happen to have an extra brand new Now That's What I Call Disney 2 CD, so I'm going to gift one of you with the joys of Disney tunes for your car.

The CD has 20 favorite Disney songs, including songs from The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted, Hercules, Aladdin, Tangled, The Aristocats, Toy Story 3, and more.

a Rafflecopter giveaway
One winner will be chosen in the morning 8/16. Winner will have 48 hours to reply with a mailing address or another winner will be selected. USA only, please.

Because my kids are cute.

All moms are totally biased, I know.... but my kids are cute!

I was recently thrown into an important work project despite maternity leave (but hey, I was complaining about boredom just the other day) and baby has kept me very busy. So posts have been lacking lately.

Until I catch my breath, enjoy some cuteness....

Baby won't wake up

Kindergartner sings 'Let It Go'

Everyone must have a cover of that song... right?!

iPhone shuffle

My iPhone pretty much rules my life. the calendar tells me where to be, when to make a phone call, when to go to the bank... it even beeps to remind me to pick up my kid from wherever she may be that day. My iPhone houses my email, some great impromptu photos, and music.

Today, I touched the music icon and hit shuffle:

-Cirque Du Soleil
-Taiko

From Mystere Live. Steve and I saw this before we were married, on one of our very first vacations together. Las Vegas!

This was the trip where I won $50 with my first coin in a slot machine (and promptly lost it within a day, since I erroneously believed it was "so easy!". I think they rig that front lobby slot machine for this very reason.)

About our schools...

I saw a very concerning email today. I am a parent of a soon-to-be Kindergartner, so a friend forwarded a PTA email. The email shared the upcoming school district budget proposal for FY2014 - and highlighted some significant concerns:

Many teacher jobs are on the chopping block.

Teachers who keep their jobs will each face 5 days of furlough.

Band and orchestra for middle and high schools? Budget proposal says CUT.

Art and music classes for elementary? Yep... budget proposal says CUT.

Media and library professionals? Cut and CUT.

Yellow Daisy Festival #Atlanta

The Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park is the south's largest arts and crafts festival - and it is coming back next weekend!

The festival features more than 450 artists and is consistently voted one of the nation’s top arts and crafts shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine’s annual “200 Best” survey. This year’s show will be held September 6-9 at Stone Mountain Park’s Special Events Meadow. With so many activities and crafts for young and old, it should be a fantastic family event.

Reading Power in a live show!

If you know Amelia at all, either in person or through this blog, you know she is a singing, dancing, performance kind of girl. We have clapped and cheered our way through several local shows - princesses, circus stars, and more.

On July 27th, Super WHY Live: You've Got The Power is coming to Atlanta - and we will be there! We love Super Why, Princess Presto, Womder Red, Alpha Pig, and the super sweet smart puppy, Woofster. It will not be your ordinary show; in addition to singing and dancing, the Super Why friends will excite and entertain us with technology, visual effects, and even aerial stunts! The new production features a team of top talent, including a Tony Award-winning scenic designer and an Emmy and Tony Award-nominated lighting designer.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to take fans on this high-flying ride and invite them into the world of Super WHY in a completely unique way...we’ve created a truly unforgettable show for the entire family.” said Michael Cohl, CEO, S2BN Entertainment.

You can check out several behind-the-scenes videos about Super WHY Live right here.

If you don't live in Atlanta? No problem! The show is touring around the country this summer, kicking off in Monroe, LA on July 18th. Other stops include Birmingham, Knoxville, Memphis, Raleigh, Charleston, Tampa, and Miami. Other cities will be announed soon!

Classical Cradle (with a #giveaway!)

A couple years have passed since my baby was a... baby. She has blossomed into a fiercely independent and fantastically creative little girl.

Bedtime used to consist of rocking in the cozy chair, listening to soft music, and patting her little bottom. Now, it is a 30-minute event. Playtime, books, funny giggling games, prayers, and back rubs.

When I received the Classical Cradle CD, I was excited to test it out. Amelia's cute little pink and white flower CD player is broken, so I hauled the ancient big black "boombox" into her room. She laughed at me and my contraption (circa 1990). But when the simple soothing piano melodies began to play, she was enthralled. In fact, she did not want to go to sleep - she wanted to wait and listen to every single song!

Classical Cradle is really a lovely bedtime album, featuring some well-known classical medleys via acoustic piano. Unlike some other children's classical albums I own, all of the songs on Classical Cradle have a calm feel and even tempo. It is a fantastic lullaby selection. Even though bedtime means a bit of play these days, we have been turning on the music every night. The entire family enjoys it.

I may want one for the office too! I certainly need some stress relief now and then.
Just as long as I don't fall asleep at my desk...

I want you to experience this lovely lullaby album too!
